Obiettivi formativi
I temi e gli argomenti trattati, insieme alle competenze e le abilità che si intendono formare, sono necessari ad acquisire le conoscenze di base di filosofia della letteratura. In particolare l’insegnamento affronterà temi e autori della filosofia della letteratura di matrice analitica.
Subjects and topics of this course, together with tasks and skills that will be acquired, are necessary to get the basics of the philosophy of literature. In particular, the course will deal with topics and authors particularly important in the philosophy of literature of the analytic tradition.

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
a) Conoscenza della filosofia della letteratura e capacità di analisi di un testo; b) capacità di applicare le conoscenze apprese durante il corso e comprensione degli argomenti filosofici presentati; c) capacità di giudizio nel valutare le diverse posizioni esaminate; d) capacità di esporre al docente le diverse posizioni filosofiche con esempi ed eventuali controesempi; e) lettura, commento e spiegazione dei testi presentati durante il corso. Inoltre, gli studenti dovranno essere in grado di leggere testi filosofici anche in lingua inglese.
a) Have a good knowledge of the philosophy of literature and have the ability to analyze a philosophical text; b) have the ability to employ what has been discussed during the course and to understand the philosophical arguments that have been examined; c) have the ability to value the philosophical positions thus presented; d) ability to present philosophical positions by making use of examples and counterexamples; e) reading, comment, and comprehension of the texts discussed during the course. Moreover, students should be able to read and understand philosophical texts also written in English.

Given the transition period following the health care crisis, the course will be both in presence (if possible) and online (streaming in Carola Barbero's Webex Room: https://unito.webex.com/meet/carola.barbero). Students interested in attending the course are invited to register online so that they can be always informed about possible changes.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Esame orale e valutazione della parte seminariale del corso. La valutazione dipenderà: i) dal grado di preparazione e di capacità di affrontare criticamente i testi; ii) capacità di presentazione orale di un articolo; iii) capacità di porre domande efficaci e pertinenti sui testi in programma. Durante l’esame sarà verificato che lo studente sia in possesso di: a) conoscenza della filosofia della letteratura e capacità di analisi di un testo; b) comprensione degli argomenti filosofici presi in esame; c) capacità di esporre al docente le diverse posizioni filosofiche con esempi e controesempi; d) capacità di commento e spiegazione dei testi.
Oral examination plus evaluation of the seminar part of the course. The evaluation will depend on i) the students' preparation on the programmed texts and their ability to face them critically; ii) their capacity to make an oral presentation of a paper; iii) their capacity to ask pertinent and penetrating questions on the programmed texts. During the examination students have to show to a) have a good knowledge of the philosophy of literature together with the ability to analyze a philosophical text; b) have understood the philosophical arguments analyzed during the course; c) possess the ability to present philosophical positions by making use of examples and counterexamples; d) be able to comment and understand the selected texts.

Metaphysics and ontology of literary works.
What is a literary work? What is the truth-value of sentences we find in literary works? What kind of objects are literary characters?
